This guide provides a practical overview of the incorporated cities and towns that are located wholly or partly in Autauga County. It uses the latest official population information available while accounting for two important local details: Prattville and Millbrook extend across county lines, and Pine Level became an incorporated town after the 2020 Census. These differences matter when comparing population figures or researching municipal boundaries, local government, and community services.
Autauga County Cities and Towns
Five incorporated municipalities have territory in Autauga County: Prattville, Millbrook, Autaugaville, Billingsley, and Pine Level. Prattville and Millbrook are cities that extend across the Autauga-Elmore county line, while Autaugaville, Billingsley, and Pine Level are towns. Population figures for Prattville and Millbrook refer to the entire municipality, not only the portion located within Autauga County.

The 2025 figures are from the U.S. Census Bureau's Vintage 2025 population estimates, the most recent completed set of city and town estimates. Pine Level requires a different treatment because the present town was incorporated in 2023. An official 2024 state record states that the town represented its population as fewer than 500 inhabitants. Earlier Census figures for the former Pine Level census-designated place cover a different geographic area and should not be used as the population of the current incorporated town.
Prattville Is the Largest City
Prattville is the largest municipality with territory in Autauga County. The U.S. Census Bureau estimated its population at 40,582 on July 1, 2025, compared with 37,781 residents counted in the 2020 Census. The latest estimate shows that the city's population has continued to grow during the first half of the decade.
Prattville extends into both Autauga and Elmore counties. For that reason, the 40,582 figure represents the entire City of Prattville rather than only residents living on the Autauga County side of the boundary. This distinction is important when comparing municipal population with the population of Autauga County itself or when researching taxes, voting, property records, and other services that depend on the county in which an address is located.
Millbrook Crosses the County Line
Millbrook is another multi-county municipality. Although the city is closely associated with Elmore County, its corporate limits also extend into Autauga County. The U.S. Census Bureau estimated the entire city's population at 17,623 on July 1, 2025, compared with a 2020 Census population of 16,564.
The 17,623 figure should not be interpreted as the number of Millbrook residents living in Autauga County. It is the population estimate for Millbrook as a whole. Residents and property owners near the county line should therefore verify the county for a specific address when looking for county tax offices, voter registration services, court information, property records, or other county-based services.
Autaugaville and Billingsley
Autaugaville is considerably smaller than Prattville and Millbrook. The 2020 Census counted 795 residents, compared with the July 1, 2025 estimate of 817. The latest estimate indicates modest population growth during the first half of the decade.
Billingsley remains one of the county's smallest incorporated communities. Its July 1, 2025 Census estimate is 129 residents. The town's small population means its scale is very different from Prattville, Millbrook, or even Autaugaville, but it remains an incorporated municipality with its own local identity and town government.
Pine Level Is a New Town
Pine Level needs special attention when comparing Autauga County communities because it is a newly incorporated municipality. The community became an incorporated town in 2023, after the 2020 Census. Current Census geographic records identify Pine Level as a town, reflecting its new municipal status.
Older population figures for Pine Level can be misleading if they are used without this context. The 2020 Census reported 4,885 residents for the former Pine Level census-designated place, but that statistical area covered substantially different boundaries from the current incorporated town. That figure should not be presented as the population of today's Town of Pine Level.
For the present municipality, an official Alabama record from 2024 states that Pine Level represented its population as fewer than 500 inhabitants. Until a directly comparable population figure for the incorporated town is available under the newer municipal boundaries, this is more appropriate than carrying forward the former CDP population.
Understanding the Population Figures
The U.S. Census Bureau releases a full census count every ten years and population estimates between censuses. The latest completed city and town estimate series is Vintage 2025, released in May 2026, with estimates through July 1, 2025. These official estimates are preferable to unofficial 2026 projections when presenting current municipal population figures.
A Census estimate is not the same as a decennial Census count. Estimates are updated using demographic data and may also use an estimates base that differs slightly from the published April 1, 2020 Census count. For that reason, population changes are best compared within the same Census vintage rather than mixing figures from unrelated projections or data products.
Because some municipal boundaries cross county lines and Pine Level uses a different population basis, the figures in this guide should not be added together to estimate the number of Autauga County residents living within incorporated municipalities.
City and Town Designations
The term "cities" is often used broadly when people search for communities in Autauga County, but the municipalities have different legal designations. Prattville and Millbrook are cities. Autaugaville, Billingsley, and Pine Level are towns. Current Census geographic records recognize Pine Level as an incorporated town rather than the census-designated place used in older datasets.
These distinctions can matter when researching municipal government, ordinances, elections, taxes, utilities, planning, public safety, or other local services. They also explain why searches for Autauga County cities may include places officially designated as towns and why a municipality such as Prattville or Millbrook may appear in records for more than one county.
